Ackermann Family
We began our journey of faith nearly 6 years ago, when we felt led by the Lord to move to El Salvador to work with orphaned and abandoned children. The process by which the Lord worked in our lives was remarkably quick.

In June of 2000 a friend of ours approached us in our adult Sunday school class with a home video he shot in a Salvadorian orphanage. The images we saw were to say the least heart wrenching. It was then Kurt felt compelled to join in the efforts to bring some relief in the form of construction to these children. After several short-term mission trips over the next two years, we knew that the Lord had been changing our hearts and increasing the desire to remain in El Salvador full time.
In 2002 our family prayed for the Lord’s direction. We wanted and needed to know if this was truly what He desired for all of us. Numerous confirmations followed, and each one was also a test of faith to die to ourselves and follow Him. We felt the Lord distinctly calling us to El Salvador. We knew it would be a challenge to raise our own support, but with God on our side,
who could be against us?
We sold our newly-built dream home as well as closed a very blessed and successful flooring business. We packed up and set out on a new journey as a family. On December 1, 2003, when the plane landed, we became missionaries to El Salvador. Our children have adapted well to living in El Salvador with its annoying restrictions at times. Of course they miss their friends but they also enjoy the adventure of helping others in a third world country.
We are very excited about working with La Casa de mi Padre. Kurt will assist in the overall operations of the existing center and assist with the construction of the new center. He also helps to coordinate the groups. He will also be a father figure to the children. Susan will help beside himwith the children and the staff. It has not been easy, but God is so very good to us. We look forward to seeing God develop in each child through His Son Jesus Christ.
